Accra Flooding

Following the rains that caused disruptions to activities on Monday morning, the Ministry of the Interior has sent emergency response teams to flood-affected regions in southern Ghana.

The National Disaster Management Organization, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and other emergency services have been called in to keep an eye on the situation, help those in need, control traffic, and carry out rescue operations if needed.

The Ministry claims that the deployment is a component of preventative public safety measures to safeguard people and property while flooding continues to impact several regions of the nation.

It has been recommended that residents in flood-prone areas relocate to higher ground when it is safe to do so and notify the closest emergency response service or security agency of any emergencies or people in distress.

People are urged to stay put until conditions improve as a preventative measure for public safety. While people at work or other safe places should stay there until it is safe to travel, individuals who are safely at home are advised to stay at home. Avoiding needless movement is advised.

Because floodwaters can rise quickly and represent a serious risk to life and property, drivers and pedestrians are strongly warned not to try to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways.

Residents in flood-prone areas are being reminded to stay cautious and move to higher ground when required, while drivers and commuters have been cautioned to avoid driving across flooded roadways.

The Ministry advised the public to solely rely on official channels for information and updates and to cooperate with security and emergency officials. It is advised that anyone in need of immediate assistance get in touch with the appropriate emergency services.

Additionally, after the rains, people are advised to be extremely cautious and stay in safe places.
