Dr-Mahamudu-Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, has encouraged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rank and file to keep the party’s unity in mind when the party selects a flagbearer for next year’s election.

Ten persons, including Dr. Bawumia, applied to run for the NPP’s flagbearership, and special delegates went to the polls today to choose five of the ten for the ultimate process of choosing a flagbearer in November.

Dr. Bawumia won today’s election with 629 votes out of 961 cast, leaving the remaining 9 candidates to split the remaining votes.

Dr. Bawumia, speaking to the media following his landslide victory at the Special Delegates Conference, urged for the strengthening of the party’s unity in order to ensure a unified front for the main election next year.

“The main goal for the party is to win the elections in 2024, and we all have to work together to achieve that,” stated the Vice President.

“This will require a lot of unity from all the various flagbearership aspirants,” he said, “so we have to ensure that we don’t destroy the unity of this party and don’t have a situation where there are cracks in our ranks.”

“We should unite and close ranks so that we can fight together after the internal election and win the main election.”

“We need to band together and support whoever wins so that we can break the eight.” “I am confident that I will triumph.” The five chosen today will compete in the final level of voting for a flagbearer for the 2024 election in November.
