Due to technical difficulties, the ongoing district level elections in the Ashanti and Eastern regions have been postponed in some electoral zones.This decision was mentioned in an EC statement made on the originally scheduled day of the elections, December 19, 2023, due to unforeseen technical issues.
The EC did not identify the impacted election districts.
Elections in those areas will now take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
The EC’s Director of Electoral Services, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, claimed that it was due to printing issues with their contractors.
He stated that numerous ballot papers had been delivered to voting locations, but due to the lateness, the elections in those places will now be held on Thursday, December 21.
The impacted areas and the actual number of polling stations affected by the delay are not specified in the Commission’s statement.
The EC has guaranteed inhabitants of these voting zones, however, that the polls will now take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
The EC apologized for any confusion caused by the last-minute modification.
They also emphasized their commitment to holding the elections on the new date, inviting locals to actively engage in the selection of their local representatives.
