England preserved their flawless World Cup qualifying record with a 2-0 win over Serbia at Wembley; Thomas Tuchel’s side has already qualified for next summer, but tough decisions must be made at No. 10, on the left wing, and in midfield as the Three Lions prepare towards next summer.
Thomas Tuchel said he loved England’s “intense” and “tight” 2-0 win over Serbia, adding the game could be pivotal in shaping his World Cup plans.
The qualifier did not exactly captivate the fans inside Wembley Stadium during the game, with the lack of away supporters not helping the atmosphere. On the pitch, however, there were more signs of how Tuchel’s England will approach the World Cup next summer.
However, there are still significant concerns about leaving such a talented player at home.
Morgan Rogers remained at No. 10 on Thursday, despite the return of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden to the England squad.
The Aston Villa ace injected life into a slow-starting England and is clearly popular with Tuchel after a string of impressive performances in the role this autumn. This wasn’t his most impactful performance, however.
Bellingham replaced him after an hour, and he appeared to be a guy on a mission. There were some errors in his play as well, but as Serbia sought the goal they required for their own World Cup qualification ambitions, space opened up for the Real Madrid star, who contributed to a rush of late opportunities. He undoubtedly finished with an even more amazing highlights reel from the night.
Tuchel’s headline-grabbing comments about Bellingham during the last six months have sparked speculation about the couple’s relationship. However, his reintegration appears unavoidable… albeit Cole Palmer’s return to fitness may complicate matters further.
