Mohammed Salisu

Mohammed Salisu, a defender for AS Monaco, will be sidelined for a considerable amount of time due to a severe knee injury that has been identified as a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

After the Ghanaian international underwent medical testing following Monaco’s Ligue 1 match against Olympique Lyonnais over the weekend, the French club disclosed the severity of the injury. Salisu was substituted late in the game, raising concerns about his health, which the club has since confirmed.

AS Monaco offered complete support for the center back as he starts his recuperation in a statement made public through its official channels. The statement said, “The Club is behind Mohammed all the way and will support him throughout his recovery.” “We’re with you, Sarki, so stay strong.”

The injury is a significant loss for both Ghana’s Black Stars, where the defender is a regular part of the national team, and Monaco, where Salisu has been a crucial player in the heart of defense. An ACL injury usually keeps a player out of action for several months, which puts his immediate club responsibilities and international prospects in jeopardy.

Despite playing the entire ninety minutes against Lyon, the damage was done in the middle of the match. After a rough start to the 2025–2026 season that was marred by injuries and little playing time, the 26-year-old had just lately regained form, thus the setback comes at a trying time.

Salisu has made eighteen appearances for Monaco across all competitions this season, and it was generally anticipated that he would play a key role for Ghana at what would have been his second World Cup. After making an appearance for the Black Stars at the 2022 competition in Qatar, he has become one of the most dependable European players in the nation.

Along with England, Croatia, and Panama, Ghana has been placed in Group L of the 2026 World Cup. Two of their group matches will take place in the United States, and their matchup with Panama will take place in Canada.
