Leaked, a film co-directed by Ghanaian artist and filmmaker Nicholas Tetteh Nartey, also known as Big Ghun, saved Ghana at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) by winning the MultiChoice Talent Factory award on Saturday, May 20.
Big Ghun’s latest feat comes a year after his show film, KORO was nominated in the Best Short Film category at last year’s awards ceremony.
Big Ghun said winning his first AMVCAs is the best feelings ever particularly when he is living his dream of being a global film maker.
“It’s one of the best feelings ever. For someone who dreams to take his art global, this feels like a start of something big and from this point, I really want to put out great productions and hope to get support from Ghana’s film industry,” he stated.
Big Ghun’s win is quite historic considering that this is the first time a winner is coming from West Africa.
Big Ghun was also full of praises for his co-director, Andrea Peregrino for her great input in making the production a success.
“Leak’s co-director is a Nigerian and she was quite instrumental in the success of this production. I’m quite excited to know that we are both young filmmakers and this is encouraging for Africa’s film industry,” he said.
Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is an annual accolade presented by MultiChoice recognising outstanding achievement in television and film in Africa.
The event, which took place in Lagos, saw the exhibition of beauty and glamour from entertainment industry stars.
The award event featured performances by famous Nigerian music performers such as Tiwa Savage, Spyro, and Iyanya, who wowed the crowd with their songs and dances.
Zozibini Tunzi and IK Osakioduwa hosted this year’s event.
