Among the 1,157 individuals honoured in the New Year Honours list are Idris Elba, ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and the winning women’s rugby and football teams from England
Sir Idris, 53, who is known for his appearances in The Wire and Luther, is knighted for contributions to young people, having launched the Elba Hope Foundation.
“I receive this honor on behalf of the many young people whose talent, ambition, and resilience have driven the work of the Elba Hope Foundation,” he declared.
“I hope we can do more to draw attention to the importance of sustained, practical support for young people and to the responsibility we all share to help them find an alternative to violence.”
In recognition of their contributions to ice skating and volunteer work, Dame Jayne and Sir Christopher, who won gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics and achieved success in the World, European, and British Championships, were named Dame and Sir. “Wonderful and humbling at the same time” is how they described the honor.
They are joined by Matt Lucas, half of the Little Britain comedy team with David Walliams, who becomes an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), and Paul Elliott, one half of the Chuckle Brothers, who is appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Lionesses and Red Roses The team’s Dutch manager, Sarina Wiegman, who has won the Euros twice with England and once with the Netherlands, is given an honorary damehood, according to the Cabinet Office. Wiegman stated, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude for this honour.

I deeply thank the fans for their support.” Captain Leah Williamson is named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), while Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway, and Ella Toone become MBEs.
