The National Theatre of Ghana is conducting a special memorial ceremony called “Remembering Mawuli Semevo” to commemorate the life and legacy of the acclaimed actor who died on Thursday, 20th February 2025.
The event will be held on Thursday, March 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the main auditorium of the National Theatre.
Mawuli Semevo, the retired director of Drama Company, one of the National Theatre of Ghana’s three resident performance groups, died last month at Ridge Hospital from injuries sustained in a fire.
Semevo, known for his remarkable acting skills on stage and in film, appeared in a number of projects, including Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days: The Love of AA.
The memorial event will bring together prominent names in Ghana’s arts and culture industry to celebrate Mawuli Semevo’s life, works and most crucially, his achievements and enduring impact on the country’s theatrical and performance scene as a teacher, actor and theatre director.
Last year, he played Baba Fakunle in Image Bureau and April Productions’ adaptation of Ola Rotimi’s “The gods are not to blame” at the National Theatre.
