Ms. Afua Kissi-Nyame, the Head of Marketing at Multichoice Ghana, is pleading with Ghanaian movie makers to hire fresh faces for their next projects.

At the third annual Graphic Showbiz Forum, which was recently held in Accra, Ms Kissi-Nyame, a panelist, discussed the difficulties in promoting Ghanaian movies. She said that her company frequently got complaints from clients over the usage of the same faces in films.

“I believe that the methods we employ while marketing Ghanaian films are important. People have commented that we frequently encounter the same faces. Why are you airing this program with the same cast and why don’t you switch out the actors?

When it comes to Ghanaian film productions, she added, “there’s always that feedback from our customers, and from our side, it is very challenging since the customers expect that we bring them fresh content and fresh faces.”

The film “Future of Ghana Movie Industry, Bright or Bleak?” featured various key people in the film business having pertinent discussions on the current state of Ghana’s film industry and possible future directions.

Ms. Kissi-Nyame identified the absence of cooperation among the participants in the film business as one of the significant obstacles that may have hampered the development of Ghana’s film industry.

“We discover that despite the high quality of the information that we get, there is little industry backing for its promotion. Players themselves aren’t making a lot of noise about their own stuff.

“There appears to be a lot of competition, so when there’s a new movie, you can expect everyone to jump on it and push it because word of mouth is very strong.” ‘Have you watched Prince’s movie?’ for example, yet this does not occur.

“And for the most part, it’s more about the paycheck for the actors, so they’re kind of removed from what they’re a part of.” If we all decide to promote our material, it will increase at a rate that will astound everyone,” she said.

MultiChoice Ghana launched Akwaaba Magic in March 2021 as a channel dedicated to providing interesting Ghanaian entertainment, series, and documentaries created and directed by Ghanaians.

Akwaaba Magic has promoted and presented various Ghanaian productions such as Dede’, Madam, To Have and to Hold, and High Currency since its inception with the motto “Welcome Home.” although the purpose of Akwaaba Magic was to promote Ghanaian creations, MultiChioice was accused of promoting the works of some perceived favorites.

“Our main goal is to keep the industry moving when there is new content.” It is something that keeps consumers coming back to our channel and purchasing our stuff.

“However, whenever we show Ghanaian productions, people come to say that we, at MultiChoice, give preferential treatment to certain people, which is never true,” she explained.
